The Accra Learning Alliance was formally launched in March 2007 and brought together various stakeholders to discuss the challenges in urban water management in the city and make suggestions towards finding sustainable solutions.
The Accra LA (SWITCH, Accra) is focusing on how to improve the water services to the poor and how to use the low quality (waste) water in income generating activities.
Research and demonstration activities are currently taking place in the areas of
- Use of urban water (fresh and waste water) for urban agriculture and other livelihood opportunities
- Maximizing the use of natural systems in all aspects of the municipal water cycle
- Governance for integrated urban water management
The Learning Alliance will also add new research topics during project implementation.
